PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police are trying to identify a group of girls shown in an online video slapping and punching a 14-year-old girl on a light rail train.

The victim and her parents told KGW-TV she was scared but not seriously hurt in the Dec. 26 attack. They say the girl was headed home from shopping and was listening to her iPod when she was attacked by strangers. The family asked the station not to reveal her identity.

The choppy video posted on YouTube has circulated among students at Centennial Middle School. KGW says the victim is on the student council there.

Sgt. Pete Simpson says the girl doesn’t want to pursue charges but transit police are trying to identify the attackers.

TriMet spokeswoman Mary Fetsch said Tuesday the transit agency’s command center was alerted to the incident when it happened and asked police to respond but the fight was over by the time they got there. TriMet did not receive a complaint. The agency forwarded the video link to police after receiving it recently.
