SEATTLE (AP) — A Seattle pastor has been charged with bilking two dozen people out of at least $1.6 million.

Anthony C. Morris has been the pastor at New Covenant Christian Center in Renton, but questions have dogged him for years about what he did with money he took from investors, including church members. Several people have gone to court to obtain judgments against him after they said they were never repaid tens of thousands of dollars they gave him.

Federal prosecutors in Seattle charged him with wire fraud Tuesday. They said his so-called investments were nothing more than a Ponzi scheme.

It wasn’t immediately clear how to contact Morris or whether he had an attorney.
