Irish coach Kelly gets 2-year contract extension

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- Notre Dame has given coach Brian Kelly a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the Irish through the 2016 season.

Athletic director Jack Swarbrick announced the decision Tuesday. He says he is pleased with the progress of the program during Kelly's first two seasons after being hired to replace Charlie Weis.

The Irish have finished 8-5 in each of the last two seasons. Notre Dame lost to Florida State in the Champs Sports Bowl last month.
