SEATTLE (AP) -- Sen. Patty Murray presented a Purple Heart medal Tuesday to a Vietnam War veteran in a ceremony in Seattle.
Murray's office says Kent Clark of Kirkland was wounded by shrapnel while serving as a helicopter door gunner on a mission in November 1969.
Clark flew more than 50 missions during the Vietnam War and received two Air Medal awards and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Murray's office says he didn't realize until recently that he didn't have the Purple Heart, so he contacted the office for help.
Clark is retired from the grocery business and has coached youth sports in Kirkland and Bothell.
