MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Andy Roddick, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Milos Raonic lost their opening matches Wednesday at the Kooyong Classic, a tuneup for next week’s Australian Open.

Roddick fell 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) to Frenchman Gael Monfils in cold, blustery conditions.

Tsonga was ousted 6-4, 6-3 by Austria’s Jurgen Melzer. Tsonga was coming off a victory over Monfils in the Qatar Open final Saturday.

Raonic didn’t drop a service game en route to winning the Chennai title, but lost 6-1, 6-2 to Mardy Fish, who had some mixed performances as part of the U.S. team at the Hopman Cup last week.

Australian teenager Bernard Tomic beat No. 7-ranked Tomas Berdych 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
