SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke has been injured while training on the superpipe Tuesday and airlifted to a Salt Lake City hospital.

Krista Parry, communications director at the Park City Mountain Resort where the accident occurred, says she has no information on Burke’s injuries. The Vancouver Sun quoted a spokesperson for the Canadian freestyle team as saying the situation is “very serious.” A spokeswoman at University Hospital in Salt Lake confirmed Burke is there and being evaluated.

Burke is a four-time Winter X Games champion in skiing superpipe — a replica of snowboarding’s halfpipe on skis. She lobbied aggressively to have the discipline included in the Olympics, and it will make its debut at the Sochi Games.
