PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Weighing in at 28 pounds, Walter the cat is among the largest to be put up for adoption at the Oregon Humane Society in Portland. Shelter Executive Director Sharon Harmon says her organization is looking for an owner who can help Walter shed some weight.
Through the end of the month, he and other adult cats at the shelter can be adopted for just $12 each.
Harmon says the cat’s owners had to give him up when they moved into an apartment that doesn’t allow cats.
She says obese cats are no laughing matter. The shelter is offering a free bag of low-calorie cat food, as well as a laser pointer to help Walter exercise — if his new owner can persuade him to chase the shifty little point of light.
