SEATTLE (AP) — The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has issued a burn ban, effective at 4 p.m. Wednesday, for King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap counties.
The Stage 1 ban prohibits outdoor fires and the use of fireplaces or wood stoves, unless they are the only source of a home’s heat.
The agency says the ban is likely to remain in effect a few days until air quality improves. Pollution is building up because of a high pressure system with clear skies and calm winds.
