SEATTLE (AP) — Cold case detectives looking for the man who killed a Federal Way girl 20 years ago have a clue from even further in the past.
The King County sheriff’s office says forensic genealogy linked the suspect’s DNA to a Mayflower family.
The information may narrow the search for the killer of Sarah Yarborough, a 16-year-old found dead on the campus of Federal Way High School. She was last seen that Saturday morning, Dec. 14, 1991, leaving home for a dance team competition at the school.
DNA evidence recovered from the scene was recently sent to Colleen Fitzpatrick of Identifiers International in California. She says the suspect is a descendant of Robert Fuller, who arrived in Salem, Mass., in the 1630s and is related to two Fullers on the Mayflower.
