KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee has added walk-on point guard Cory Stanton to the team.

The Springfield, Tenn., native spent his freshman season at Clemson before transferring to Lipscomb for the 2011 fall semester. Because of NCAA rules, Stanton may practice with the Volunteers but won’t be allowed to compete in games until next January, when he will be a redshirt sophomore.

Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin says the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Stanton is quick and fast and knows how to manage a team.

In his lone year at Clemson, Stanton averaged 2.4 points and 10.7 minutes per game. He had a season-high nine points against Michigan and came off the bench to score seven against North Carolina.
