Rugg leads Vermont past winless Binghamton 73-53

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Clancy Rugg scored a career-high 18 points off the bench and Vermont defeated winless Binghamton 73-53 Thursday night in an America East Conference game.

The Catamounts (9-9, 3-1) won their third straight while the Bearcats (0-16, 0-4) have dropped 17 in a row since losing to Vermont in the quarterfinals of the league tournament last March.

The Catamounts led the whole way, opening up an 18-point lead in the first half. Binghamton did not get into double figures until the 6:58 mark.

The Bearcats opened the second half with an 11-3 run to get to 38-30 with 17:24 remaining, then Vermont pulled away.

Matt Glass and Four McGlynn added 12 apiece for the Catamounts, who outshot Binghamton from the field 52.8 percent (28 of 53) to 38.8 percent (19 of 49).

Vermont had a 40-14 scoring advantage in the paint

Ben Dickinson scored 18 points to lead the Bearcats.
