UNC Asheville rallies to beat Campbell 89-82

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Jeremy Atkinson scored 19 of his career-high 22 points in the second half and UNC Asheville overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat Campbell 89-82 on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (11-6, 6-0 Big South Conference) won their fifth straight by shooting 60.7 percent after halftime (17 of 28) while outscoring the Camels 57-38.

Matt Dickey added 19 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists and J.P. Primm had 18 points.

UNC Asheville led 81-79 with 1:56 remaining. Dickey then hit a 3 and the Bulldogs made 5 of 8 free throws. Three Campbell starters fouled out in the final 2:13.

The Camels (10-8, 4-2) led 29-12 at the 9:02 mark and by 12 at the break.

After the Bulldogs hit three straight 3s to open the second half, Campbell again built an 11-point lead before UNC Asheville took the lead for good with 6:11 remaining.

Eric Griffin’s 13 points led the Camels.
