HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A charity founded by a former Penn State assistant football coach accused of molesting boys is putting up for sale a 60-acre central Pennsylvania property where it had been building an educational center.

The Second Mile told The Associated Press before a planned Friday announcement funding for its Center for Excellence stopped after founder Jerry Sandusky was arrested in November and charged with sexually abusing boys. Construction began last year, but the project was canceled.

The State College-based nonprofit says it’s evaluating its options and trying to preserve programs. It calls the property sale a key step in reaching that objective.

The Second Mile says the programs it has scheduled for the coming months will continue, including a leadership institute in early April.

The property is in Bellefonte, northeast of State College.

Sandusky maintains his innocence.
