ROME (AP) — An Italian coast guard official says rescuers heard the shouts of of two survivors aboard a cruise liner that ran aground off Tuscany a day earlier and are looking for the man and the woman.

Coast guard officer Marcello Fertitta tells The Associated Press that firefighters heard distinct shouts, one in a male voice and one in a female voice, aboard the Costa Concordia.

Rescuers had been searching the ship for close to 40 people still unaccounted for after the ship ran aground.

The Italian news agency ANSA had reported that rescuers had found two people in good condition in a specific cabin.

Fertitta says the firefighters had not yet located the pair and called a specialized firefighters’ search team to help board the ship.

Three people died and more than 4,000 were forced to evacuate.
