LA MIRADA, Calif. (AP) — An Oregon woman’s car and the cremated remains of her mother that were in the backseat have been found and returned to the victim after they were stolen from a Southern California grocery store parking lot.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials say the woman’s sisters found the stolen 2005 Ford Taurus on Saturday in a parking lot in La Mirada near the store where it was taken. The mother’s ashes were still in the car.

The woman was visiting family in Southern California and left her car at a Stater Bros. market with the remains in a white box in the back seat.

When she returned about an hour later, the car was gone.

The woman planned to return to Oregon with the remains, to arrange a final resting place.
