Valparaiso defeats Youngstown State 76-62

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Kevin Van Wijk had 23 points and seven rebounds and Ryan Broekhoff added 14 points and eight rebounds as Valparaiso defeated Youngstown State 76-62 on Friday night.

Richie Edwards scored 12 points and Will Bogan 11 for the Crusaders (11-7, 4-2 Horizon League), who have won the last 14 meetings between the teams.

Kendrick Perry and Blake Allen scored 16 points apiece to lead the Penguins (9-7, 4-2). Ashen Ward had 13 points and seven rebounds, and Damian Eargle added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Valparaiso led 32-26 early in the second half when it embarked on a 14-5 run over a 5:13 stretch to take permanent control. Broekhoff scored five points and Van Wijk added a three-point play during the surge, and the Penguins got no closer than seven points afterward.
