Sam Houston State defeats Nicholls State 75-65

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Demarcus Gatlin led all scorers with 21 points and helped lead Sam Houston State to a 75-65 win over Nicholls State Saturday in a Southland Conference game.

Gatlin connected on 5 of 8 shots from the floor, going 4 for 4 from 3-point range. He also sank 7 of 10 free throw attempts. That helped give the Bearkats (7-10, 1-2) a big advantage at the stripe. They made 24 of 34 foul shots, while Nicholls State (4-12, 0-4) was 13 for 19.

Sam Houston State also outrebounded the Colonels 30-17.

Three of Gatlin’s teammates scored in double figures. Guard Konner Tucker came off the bench to score 15 points. Starting forwards Marcus James and Steven Werner added 13 apiece.

For Nicholls State, guard Trevon Lewis led the way with 16 points. Dantrell Lewis came off the Colonels’ bench to score 13 points.
