NEW YORK (AP) — Jonathon Williams scored 18 points and Wagner defeated Central Connecticut State 67-58 on Saturday night for its first seven-game winning streak since the 1979-80 season.

The Seahawks (14-3, 5-1 Northeast Conference) are off to their best start since joining Division I for the 1976-77 season.

Tyler Murray added 12 points for Wagner, which snapped a five-game losing streak against CCSU.

Wagner led 42-30 at halftime and never trailed in the second half, although the Blue Devils (8-8, 5-1) rallied to tie the game at 48-48 with 12:54 remaining. Wagner responded by scoring the next six points and the lead would not dip below three points the rest of the way.

CCSU, which was held to its lowest point total of the season, shot only 38.8 percent (19 of 49) while Wagner shot 50 percent (23 of 46). Robby Ptacek led the Blue Devils with 28 points.
