White scores 18, Campbell beats Gardner-Webb 74-68

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Darren White scored 18 points and Campbell used two late runs to defeat Gardner-Webb 74-68 Saturday.

The Camels (11-8, 5-2 Big South Conference) trailed 56-55 with 8:56 remaining before scoring six straight. Rico Ferguson tallied the last four points of the spurt to put Campbell up 63-56 with 6:19 to play.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs (9-11, 4-4) came back to tie it, 62-62, on Tyler Strange’s free throw with 4:40 left. But the Camels scored eight unanswered points over the next 1:56 to pull away for good.

Gardner-Webb outrebounded Campbell 37-26, but allowed the Camels to shoot 54 percent from the field (27 of 50). Campbell came in ranked third in the nation in field goal percentage (50.4 percent).

Trey Freeman added 14 points, Ferguson 12 and Eric Griffin 10 points and five blocks for the Camels.

Max Landis led Gardner-Webb with 18 points and Tashan Newsome had 17.
