AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — Chaz Williams scored 22 points and dished out seven assists to lead Massachusetts to a 71-62 win over Saint Joseph’s on Saturday.

Raphiael Putney, who made four 3-pointers, finished with 17 points and three steals for the Minutemen (14-4, 3-1 Atlantic 10 Conference), who have won 10 straight games at home. Terrell Vinson added 11 points, and Sean Carter had a team-high 10 rebounds.

Saint Joseph’s, which trailed by as many as 17 points, cut Massachusetts’ lead to 61-59 lead on a layup by Halil Kanacevic with 2:27 left in the second half.

But the Hawks (12-6, 2-2) pulled no closer. The Minutemen answered with an 8-0 run that was sparked Carter’s slam dunk. Williams, who went 10 for 10 from the free throw line, made six from the line during the spurt.

Ronald Roberts made all seven of his shot attempts to lead Saint Joseph’s with 16 points.
