Delaware tops Northeastern 70-54 in women's hoops

BOSTON (AP) -- Elena Delle Donne had 22 points and 10 rebounds despite missing most of the first half with a left leg injury and No. 20 Delaware beat Northeastern 70-54 on Sunday for its fourth straight win.

Delle Donne entered the tight contest with about 6 minutes left in the first half. She ended up playing 22 minutes while going 6 of 15 from the field and a perfect 9 of 9 from the free throw line. The junior forward came into the game leading the nation in scoring at 29.8 points.

Delaware led 31-28 at halftime and 43-40 with 15:39 left in the game. Then the Blue Hens took control with a 13-0 run, capped by Delle Donne's three-point play that gave them a 56-40 advantage. She had nine points during the surge.

Delaware (14-1, 5-0 Colonial Athletic Association), led by at least 12 points the rest of the way. Danielle Parker added 13 points and 10 rebounds and Lauren Carra scored 12 points, all on 3-point shots.

Northeastern (3-13, 1-4) was led by Deanna Kerkhof with 14 points and nine rebounds.
