SEATTLE (AP) — A search has been launched for a missing snowshower at Mount Rainier National Park.

Park officials say 66-year-old Yong Chun Kim was leading a snowshoe walk on Saturday when he slipped down steep slope. He told the group he’d meet them later on after being unable to climb back up the slope.

But Kim never made it back to Paradise. By 3 p.m., his group reported him missing and NPS initiated a search until 9 p.m.

Park officials say Kim is an experienced outdoorsman but that he was only equipped for a day hike. He last communicated to his group by radio at 2:30 p.m.

The park says weather conditions at Paradise were severe Saturday, with blizzard conditions and 5 inches of new snow overnight.
