ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan has dismissed wide receiver Darryl Stonum, who was sentenced to 10 days in jail earlier this month after violating probation in a drunken-driving case.

Coach Brady Hoke announced the dismissal Tuesday for what he called a violation of team rules.

Stonum started 25 games for the Wolverines, catching 76 passes for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns. He also returned 62 kickoffs for 1,538 yards and holds the single-season kickoff return mark with 39 returns for 1,001 yards in 2009.

Stonum was sentenced to two years of probation last June for operating a vehicle while visibly impaired. He was also jailed last summer for violating probation following 2008 charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

He was driving with a revoked license this month, violating his probation.

He has one year of eligibility remaining. Stonum says he is focused on graduating this spring.
