ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — J.P. Primm scored 23 points and UNC Asheville defeated Coastal Carolina 88-81 on Tuesday night.
Matt Dickey added 19 points, going 12 of 13 from the free-throw line, Chris Stephenson scored 17 and Jeremy Atkinson had 15 points and 10 rebounds for UNC Asheville, which won its seventh straight. It’s the first time the Bulldogs opened Big South Conference play 8-0 since 1997-98.
The Bulldogs (13-6) scored 22 points off 16 turnovers while giving it away 16 times.
The Chanticleers (13-5, 6-2) opened the second half with 12 straight points, and tied it at 51 on Kierre Greenwood’s free throw with 14:48 left. The Bulldogs responded with nine straight points, and would lead by no fewer than five points the rest of the way.
Sam McLaurin scored 17 points and Jon Pack had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Coastal Carolina.
