PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center is hosting a free educational workshop for people interested in learning about the hospital’s new blood conservation program.

The community workshop is from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 28 at the medical center’s Health Education Center, 400 N.E. Mother Joseph Place.

Blood conservation is the appropriate provision and use of blood, its components and derivatives, and strategies to reduce or avoid the need for transfusion of blood cells or blood products.

Medical Center physicians use safe and effective transfusion-free medical and surgical techniques that reduce many of the risks associated with blood transfusions.
