Niagara defeats Canisius 75-56 for 3rd win in row

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Antoine Mason scored 22 points and Niagara defeated Canisius 75-56 on Thursday night for its third straight win.

Marvin Jordan added 16 points with five 3-pointers and Ameen Tanksley had 11 for the Purple Eagles (9-11, 4-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Niagara made nine 3-pointers in the game.

Juan’ya Green, who came in averaging 18.6 points per game for Niagara, was held to six points but had 11 assists.

It was the second-fewest points allowed this season by Niagara, which gave up 52 to Sam Houston State in a win on Nov. 23.

The Purple Eagles shot 49.1 percent (28 of 57) while holding Canisius to 31 percent (18 of 58).

Alshwan Hymes scored 20 points, while Chris Manhertz got a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Gaby Belardo also scored 13 points for the Golden Griffins (4-14, 1-7), who have lost five of their past six games.
