Panel to discuss state-run bank for Washington

The founding members of an effort to start a state-run Washington bank will speak at a forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 426 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Vancouver.

A state bank would allow government agencies to cut ties to big financial institutions, and has gained some support in Olympia, with 44 co-sponsors signing on to a bill to make it happen. Oregon legislators are considering a similar idea.

John Repp and Cindy Cole, founding members of the Washington Public Bank Coalition, will be the featured speakers at next week’s forum, which was organized with the support of Occupy Vancouver.
