CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Kellen Thornton scored 14 points Thursday night to lead Tennessee State to a 55-46 victory over Eastern Illinois.
Wil Peters added 12 and Robert Covington 11 for the Tigers (11-10, 4-4), who snapped a nine-game Ohio Valley road losing streak dating to last year. Kenny Moore grabbed eight rebounds, and Patrick Miller had six assists.
Joey Miller hit double figures for the fifth straight game with 19 points and Jeremy Granger had 10 for the Panthers (9-8, 2-3), who dropped their second in a row.
The Tigers led 41-34 before Granger scored three straight baskets to trim Eastern Illinois’ deficit to 41-40 with 6:08 left. But Tennessee State responded with a 9-2 run keyed by four points from Covington to go up 50-42 with 2:30 left and seal the victory.
Tennessee State held a shooting advantage of 45 percent (22 of 49) to 36 percent (20 of 55).
