Letter: Let's not redefine marriage
Saturday, January 21, 2012
History has shown that one reason great societies fall is because of the moral collapse causing a tearing of the fabric of society.
An example of the tearing of the fabric of society is the enactment of no-fault divorce, which has contributed to the breakdown of the family.
Once the breakdown of the family started, society began a descent into drug abuse, crime in the form of rape, murder, robbery, etc. The breakdown of the family has also led to an increase in government welfare programs, the increase in sexually transmitted disease, suicide, abortion, and a culture of death as exhibited in video games, movies, pornography and real life.
The increase in crime and these other social ills has been traced directly to the breakdown of the family consisting of a mother and a father. To redefine marriage between same-sex couples will compound the problem.
A wise person would take this into consideration before taking such a vote that redefines marriage.
