GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — David Williams’ layup with 1 second left gave UNC Greensboro a 61-60 win over Samford on Sunday.

The Spartans (6-14, 4-4 Southern Conference) trailed 60-59 with 20 seconds left before missing consecutive field goals. However, they grabbed the offensive rebound on both, the first coming after Jeffrey Merrit’s block of Derrell Armstrong and the second after a miss by Trevis Simpson that Williams scooped up.

UNC Greensboro was outrebounded 43-34 but made the boards count, outscoring the Bulldogs on second chances 19-9. The Spartans scored 27 points off 23 turnovers.

Armstrong finished with 27 points and Simpson 15.

The Spartans led 35-27 at halftime but shot 25.6 percent in the second half (10 of 39) to get outscored 33-26 in the final 20 minutes.

Samford (5-13, 2-5) was led by Merritt with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Drew Windler with 19 points.
