FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — Ryan Pearson finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds as George Mason built a 12-point second-half lead and held on for a 67-61 win over UNC Wilmington on Monday night.

Bryon Allen added 17 points, including 13 in the second half, and Mike Morrison grabbed 10 rebounds for the first-place Patriots (16-5, 8-1 Colonial Athletic Association), who won for the ninth time in 10 games.

Reserve KK Simmons led the Seahawks (8-11, 4-5) with 18 points.

Leading by one, George Mason scored the first nine points of the second half and eventually led 40-28 with just under 16 minutes left.

The Seahawks countered with a 12-2 run to get to 44-43, but missed on their next two trips and then Allen converted a three-point play.

After the Patriots built a 60-49 lead, the Seahawks got within five on Cedrick Williams’ jumper with 1:10 left, but could get no closer.
