Letter: Gay marriage: let the people vote

I found it comforting to read the Jan. 14 story “Senate now 2 votes shy on gay marriage” that there are a few of our elected lawmakers who are willing to do the job they were elected to do: support a vote of the people. (NOTE: That two-vote shortfall was overcome on Monday.)

The best option is to send it to the voters on a referendum. Discuss the issue with the constituents first.

I hope that is the attitude of most of the elected, and not: Minority rights should not be decided with the ballot. To me, that sounds like an effort to bring a dictatorship.
