STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — A vehicle carrying the late Penn State coach Joe Paterno will drive down streets lined with well-wishers and mourners to a private burial after a funeral at a campus spiritual center.
Thousands paid their respects to the Hall of Famer during a two-day public viewing that ended Wednesday morning. A family spokesman says a private funeral is being held Wednesday afternoon.
Some waited three hours or more in the predawn cold for the opportunity to pass by Paterno’s casket. A long line of mourners stretched out the doors of a campus spiritual center and through police barricades, much the same as Tuesday.
Paterno died Sunday, two months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. A campus memorial service is scheduled for Thursday.
