Central Park — Three women were honored during the 2012 Clark College State of the College Address Jan. 19 for their contributions to the region. The 2012 Iris Awards were given to Lisa Nisenfeld, president of the Columbia River Economic Development Council, called an inspirational leader who possesses a rare ability to provide vision and passion to those she leads; to Sally Shaefer, a community leader and volunteer for more than 50 years, described as a humble, generous woman who is a leader, role model and inspiration; and to Mary Strehlow, developmental disabilities manager for the Clark County Department of Community Services. One of Strehlow’s nominators said, “The past 30 years have seen a revolution in our attitudes and acceptance of disabilities and Mary has been at the forefront in this revolution. She is a community hero.”
