LONDON (AP) — Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton says he has been warned by the English Football Association after offering match predictions on Twitter.

Players are banned from betting on games in competitions in which their club is involved.

Barton says on his verified Twitter account that the FA has written to him “regarding me tweeting about predicting the weekend’s Manchester double,” referring to City beating Tottenham and United’s victory at Arsenal.

The FA rules say “the passing of information would not just be by word of mouth — the rule applies equally to e-mails or social networking sites.”

Barton tweeted: “I am not allowed to give my opinion of possible results in case that is seen as insider information.”

The FA declined to comment.
