Washington football coach Steve Sarkisian was so close to the Lakes High School bench last week when the Lancers played Garfield in Edmundson Pavillion that he could have been the team trainer.

Sarkisian was waiting for five-star lineman Zach Banner, making an all-out effort to recruit the 6-foot-9, 310-pounder to attend Washington, the Seattle Times reported. Banner has narrowed his choices to Washington, Oklahoma and Southern California, and will announce his pick on Monday.

Last year, the Huskies got all five of the state’s blue-chip recruits.

This year, only Mercer Island quarterback Jeff Lindquist is headed for the Dawgs. Lindquist is considered the No. 8 quarterback prospect in the nation. Banner is rated the No. 2 offensive tackle, according to Rivals.com.

Sarkisian’s remaking of the defensive coaching staff has been punctuated by hiring coaches who carry distinguished recruiting reputations.

The soap opera that Tiger Woods has become continues with the news his former swing coach Hank Haney is writing a book, entitled “The Big Miss.’’

Woods and Haney worked together while Woods was winning 31 tournaments and six majors.

Woods is upset (imagine that) with the book.

He calls it “one-sided,’’ just a way for Haney to make money, and pledges not to read it.

Tiger will never get it. He somehow feels everyone around him must live by a code of silence, rather than realize he’s chosen to be a public figure and with that choice he surrendered much of his privacy.

Woods had no problem with peddling shoes, sport drinks and financial services.

Now, he needs to stop believing that everything about himself is privileged information that can be shared with no one.

Haney says the book is about Woods’ golf game, not his social indiscretions.

When the greatest golf game ever falls apart, people are going to want to read why.

Here’s another reason to be depressed if you are a Mariners’ fan, thus your team plays in the same division as the Los Angeles Angels.

This from aol.sportingnews.com: “…they (the Angels) arguably have three aces–Jered Weaver, Dan Haren and C.J. Wilson — before even getting to Ervin Santana, who had a 2.78 ERA over his final 14 starts last year.’’
