Letter: BPA disregarding people’s views
Friday, January 27, 2012
Bonneville Power Administration has made it painfully clear that it might name a preferred route for a new power line when the Draft Environmental Impact Statement is released, one full year past the original target date, but they will not drop any of the routes.
This means all four routes will remain under consideration for at least another year and a half, continuing to hold thousands of families hostage for a total of almost four years. BPA has a talented staff and unlimited outside resources, so why are they unable to select one preferred route and unburden the remaining people?
It is obvious BPA officials do not care about the people or the will of the people, but they are concerned about one spotted owl’s nest. Leaving thousands of families in limbo does not cause BPA a moment’s concern because it is being done on the backs of the people. Since BPA is so unwilling to make a decision, I know three very active citizens groups that are more than capable of helping BPA with this task.
