Appalachian State defeats Elon 81-66

BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Omar Carter had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Appalachian State defeated Elon 81-66 on Saturday for its seventh straight win in the series.

Jamaal Trice scored 20 points and Andre Williams grabbed 10 rebounds for the Mountaineers (9-11, 5-5 Southern Conference).

Carter was 9 of 13 from the field and Trice made 6 of 9 for the Mountaineers, who made 54.5 percent (30 of 55) of their field goal attempts. Carter scored 16 of his points in the second half. Elon shot only 37.9 percent (22 of 58) from the field.

Appalachian State used a 9-0 run to build a 14-point lead early in the second half, then had a 13-3 run to claim its biggest lead at 75-57 after a layup by Carter with 1:56 left.

Jack Isenbarger scored 20 points and Austin Hamilton added 10 for the Phoenix (10-10, 5-4), who had a two-game winning streak snapped.
