McKines scores 20, NM State earns 60-56 victory

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Wendell McKines scored 20 points, including the go-ahead dunk with a minute left, to lead New Mexico State to a 60-56 victory over Fresno State on Saturday night.

Kevin Olekaibe led Fresno State (9-14, 1-6 Western Athletic) with 18 points and Jerry Brown scored 13 points.

Trailing by eight at halftime, Fresno State took a 43-39 lead with a 12-0 run as the Bulldogs shot 44.4 percent in the second half. New Mexico State (15-7, 5-2) came back to take a 56-55 lead on a Daniel Mullings breakaway dunk with 1:52 to play. Olekaibe hit a free throw to tie it at 56-56 with 1:24 left.

After McKines’ dunk, Tyrone Watson hit two free throws with 14 seconds left to seal the victory.

NMSU outrebounded Fresno State 46-25 with 20 offensive rebounds and outscored the Bulldogs 28-18 in the paint.
