Ortiz gives Wagner 51-50 win over Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) — Kenneth Ortiz made a free throw with 4 seconds left to give Wagner a 51-50 win over Quinnipiac on Saturday.

Quinnipiac’s Ike Azotam made a layup to cap a 7-2 run for the Bobcats, tying it at 50 with 2:36 left.

The Bobcats (11-10, 4-6 Northeast Conference) then missed a 3, got the offensive rebound, missed a jumper, grabbed another offensive rebound and missed a layup. In total, Quinnipiac went 0 for 5 from the field in the final 2 minutes.

Quinnipiac shot just 28.8 percent (17 of 59), despite scoring 32 points in the paint and outrebounding Wagner 40-31.

Latif Rivers scored 10 points to lead the Seahawks (17-4, 8-2), who shot 44.2 percent (19 of 43).

Azotam was the game’s only other double-figure scorer with 15 points, tallying 11 in the second half, for Quinnipiac. He also grabbed 12 of his 15 rebounds in the final 20 minutes.
