DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Paul Tracy says he is close to putting together a deal to run in IndyCar this season, but 2012 will be the Canadian’s final year in the open-wheel series.
Tracy says he’s working on a deal with Michael Shank Racing and believes he has a sponsor. The team still needs to secure an engine package.
MSR will be a new team in IndyCar this season, and it will co-owned by NASCAR driver AJ Allmendinger.
Tracy says he wants the 2012 season to be a farewell tour of sorts, and he’d like to move to sports car racing when he’s finished. He says at 43 years old, it’s too difficult to put together a top-flight program to compete with powerhouse teams Penske Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing.
