UNC Greensboro nips Western Carolina 89-86 in OT

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Trevis Simpson scored 26 points and Derrell Armstrong took control in overtime as UNC Greensboro won its sixth straight, 89-86 over Western Carolina Saturday in Southern Conference play.

The Spartans (8-14, 6-4) led 41-31 at halftime before Western Carolina (9-13, 3-6) rallied behind Keaton Cole (18 points). Simpson's jumper with 19 seconds left in regulation put UNC Greensboro up 67-63. After Cole's 3-pointer, Simpson made two foul shots at 0:09 for a 69-66 lead.

But Cole's trey with a second left forced overtime.

With it tied 73-all, Armstrong -- who scored 23 points -- scored the next five Spartans points for a 78-74 lead. His 3-pointer made it 83-76. Trey Sumler (22 points) had scored seven straight Catamounts points.

Tom Tankelewicz's trey at 0:12 cut it to 87-86. Armstrong made two foul shots with 0:09 left before Cole missed a trey. The Spartans hit all 11 foul shots in overtime.
