KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Flenard Whitfield scored 22 points and Shayne Whittington garnered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Western Michigan over Miami (Ohio) 73-64 on Saturday.
Western Michigan (10-11, 4-3 MAC) led by 15 points, its largest lead of the game, with 10:36 remaining and won handily despite not making a shot in the final 2:34 of regulation.
Miami (5-14, 1-6) shot an impressive 11 of 13 on 3-pointers in the first half compared with 4 of 17 in the second half. Brian Sullivan led Miami with 20 points, including 6 of 9 from 3-point range. Julian Mavunga added a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds for the RedHawks.
Western Michigan shot 57.1 percent from the field, including 44.4 percent on 3-pointers.
