BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) -- The Whatcom County sheriff's office says a snow boarder who became lost Saturday on Mount Baker survived the night by digging a snow cave.
The next morning he was able to make his way back to the ski area where he was treated by the ski patrol and found to be OK.
The sheriff's office says the 23-year-old man, Jakub Cink, is from the Czech Republic and currently staying with friends in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was making his first visit to Mount Baker.
He got lost in an out-of-bounds area thinking he was taking a short cut to the parking lot. He dug the snow cave as night fell.
Deputies and about 20 volunteers who were out Saturday night had to call off their search because of avalanche danger.
