SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Some Oregon state employees are angry their home email addresses were given to a state legislator.

They were concerned when they received the email last week from Rep. Dennis Richardson of Central Point asking for their opinion on how state government could save money.

The Statesman Journal reports (http://is.gd/NHb7sS ) Richardson obtained the email addresses through a public records request to state agencies. The Public Employees’ Benefit Board provided more than 85,000 addresses. The Oregon Educators Benefit Board provided 55,000.

State Justice Department spokesman Tony Green says email addresses are not protected from disclosure and their release is not considered an unreasonable invasion of privacy. He says people can delete them or block them.

Richardson says he’ll delete names from his email list from anyone who wants off.
