Southeast Missouri overruns Eastern Illinois 74-53

CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Marland Smith scored 19 points and Southeast Missouri used a 20-0 second-half run to defeat Eastern Illinois 74-53 on Monday night.

Tyler Stone had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Redhawks (12-9, 7-2 Ohio Valley), who have won eight of 10. Leon Powell added 12 points and Michael Porter 10.

Jeremy Granger’s 12 points led the Panthers (9-12, 2-7), who lost their sixth straight.

Southeast Missouri fell behind 36-31 at intermission but outscored Eastern Illinois 43-17 in the second half.

After nudging ahead 44-42, the Redhawks held the Panthers scoreless for 8:22 during a 20-0 run fueled by eight points from Stone. This followed an earlier 11-0 spurt by Southeast Missouri.

The Redhawks, who swept the season series, outshot the Panthers 52 percent (27 of 52) to 37 percent (20 of 54) and held a 42-25 rebounding advantage.
