Talking Points: Super Bowl Week is upon us

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

This is Super Bowl Week.

It’s the week when football fans learn very little about the teams involved in the big game that they probably did not already know.

It is a week where musicians get their own day in front of the media to answer questions like: “What made you decide to perform at the halftime show this year?” (Answer: “Ummm, to sell more music.”)

It’s a week where the term “Radio Row” doesn’t mean a physical activity on a body of water.

It’s a week where we might find out how many times someone will ask if Eli Manning knows what brother Peyton Manning is thinking.

But for a football fan … it’s a week of pure heaven.

We applaud any tennis fan who stayed up through the wee hours for the entire six-hour Australian Open men’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. (We also question their sanity … but we’ll deal with that when those fans wake up.)

We also applaud Djokovic. It’s been an amazing run that does not seem to be slowing down now that he has five Grand Slam titles.

As Sports Illustrated writer Jon Wertheim pointed out: “We keep talking about this golden age in men’s tennis. What do we say about the man who has won four of the last five major events in this unparalleled era?”
