Taiwanese exchange students who came to Evergreen schools last week are putting on a Chinese New Year celebration at Union High School Wednesday.

The Taiwanese students will collaborate with American students from their host schools — Mill Plain and Hearthwood elementary schools and Shahala Middle School — in the performance, which is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the school, 6201 N.W. Friberg-Strunk St.

The Taiwanese students will perform traditional dances, kung-fu, Chinese yo-yo demonstrations and demonstrations on musical instruments such as the ocarina, Erhu and the Liuqin.

The Taiwanese students have held a culture camp after school every day to teach American students traditional Chinese calligraphy, dances and how to play Chinese musical instruments. American students who have attended the camps will also perform Wednesday night.

The performance is free and open to the public.
