Deputies with the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office are looking for a teen who said he went into the woods for a weeklong camping trip.

The parents of Evan Byman, 15, told emergency dispatchers Monday morning that their son left a note saying he was going camping for a week in nearby woods and that they shouldn’t come looking for him.

Byman is believed to be in the Eufala Heights and Harmony Creek area in Castle Rock, according to a Cowlitz sheriff’s office bulletin.

He is described as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 145 pounds. He has blond hair, blue eyes and is believed to be wearing black rubber boots. He may be carrying a 12-gauge shotgun and a sleeping bag.

Deputies and sheriff’s reserves searched the area Monday but didn’t find Byman.

Police told neighbors to keep an eye out for the teen and to call 911 if he is seen.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911; those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 360-577-1206.
