OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — For all the joy that comes with making college basketball a family affair, situations where fathers coach their sons can be an albatross for both. Fans, media and teammates watch their every move to see if dad is giving lad any sort of special treatment.

It helps when the kid is the best or one of the best players on the team.

At Creighton, Greg McDermott’s son Doug is the third-leading scorer in the country. At Central Michigan, coach Ernie Ziegler’s son Trey ranks near the top of the Mid-American Conference in scoring and rebounding. At Detroit, coach Ray McCallum’s son Ray Jr. leads the Horizon League in scoring. At UC Davis, coach Jim Les’ son Tyler leads the Big West in 3-point shooting.

The coaches say they cherish the time they spend with their sons.
